The world of fashion today is filled with numerous styles and tastes. Locating vintage designer jewelry fashionably and well doesn't take any special skill. It just requires an appreciation of the jewelry and knowing where to look. The term "vintage" doesn't always have to mean "ancient," though. In fact, anything older than 100 years is antique. But vintage is more about evoking a memorable time or era. Pieces from the 80s and 70s can be just as prized as pieces from older decades.

Certain fashions are timeless, no matter the age. It is in this way that we've come to treasure certain vintage items of jewelry. Pendant necklace and earring sets, mother-of-pearl brush and comb sets from a century ago - or even just two decades ago - are valuable items regardless of their jeweled content.

Almost any article of clothing can be improved by the strategic placement of a piece of vintage designer jewelry, no matter how modern the clothes are. A bit of class and elegance that a lovely vintage brooch offers can make a good counterpoint to a trendy jacket or blouse. Check out the wide variety of jewelry available in almost every good second-hand or thrift store. You'll find yourself amazed at what's out there for sale.

If you're really serious about jewelry like this, be sure to add estate sales to your list of places to visit. Also large auctions run by auction houses can be a nice source, though prices can get a little steep. Always remember that the Internet today is the single best source for finding out where vintage jewelry might be. If you hunt enough, you might be able to find a few inexpensive items once in a while.

You can also make reproductions of vintage designer jewelry styles. There are numerous kits and accessory supplies that allow you to recreate a certain era or time. Victorian styles and Roaring Twenties styles are always favorites of most crafts makers. Classic pearl and silver designs of the Fifties, especially anything Audrey Hepburn might have worn, are also popular.

Vintage designer jewelry - either real or reproduction - makes a good addition to a jewel box or as part of just about any collection. Pieces from a certain age or era can help bring a fond sense of remembrance and a warmth and vibrancy that's hard to explain.

A good source for locating vintage designer jewelry is the internet. Take a look at the more popular auction sites and you'll occasionally see signed pieces from certain designers that create a bidding frenzy and ultimately sell for a very handsome sum.
