It's a given that you won't see vertical blinds in a high end home for the plain reason that they are tacky. Sure they are cute in a little bungalow on a romantic vacation, but you are in a vacation spot. No worries though, if you want to bring the party home you can match your teal blue sofa with matching fabric laced vertical blinds and then it's like living in a frilly seashell.
You won't walk into a million dollar home and see vertical blinds. This is because they look cheap. Sure you can get them in any color. If you have a couch the color of some common stomach medicine you can get window blinds to match. You can then get matching wallpaper and make your entire room look a bad Vegas show act.
When entering a home with these fabulous fashions challenged owners you just want to gasp. The worse thing that if you sell you home and someone is dumb enough to buy it. You may have to call in the fix it television show to sell your house with these babies. It makes me think of a friend who has a bathroom that looked like a baked potato because the previous owners had put up silver wallpaper.
Hey don't get me wrong, if you like window blinds, good for you. I've seen many a tricked out mobile home but it doesn't mean it would be my first choice to live in one. If you choose to defend your right to vertical blind more power to you. I also won't fight you for the last dried up egg roll at the ninety-nine cent Chinese buffet either.
Vertical blinds are a poor man's upgrade. They show the lack of creativity in designing an appealing room. Skimping on window treatments by adding tacky vertical blinds is like displaying a bottle of ketchup next to a Van Gogh.
You will pass down this generational curse of tackiness to the next home owner who cannot afford to replace your sea foam green window blinds and are forced to buy a salmon colored sofa to match thus placing them in what appears to be an ongoing episode of Miami Vice in their living room. You will not be held down by morality of primary colors or textures. Your wood window blinds are perfect in your mobile home as they match perfectly with the wood paneling on your 1972 station wagon.
And what would the proverbial six hour a day do without their window blinds? Spending all that wasted time cleaning house can really cramp a watcher's style. How can anyone expect to clean his or her window treatments and know if Victoria will confess to Jake that it might not be his baby?
They are great for those who want to spend less time on housework too. Just a little dusting once a month and you are good to go. While you are at it you can lay down some astro-turf on the floor to match. Who doesn't want more free time to play games all day on the computer or watch soap operas, priorities guys!
So go ahead America and keep buying those window blinds. You are keeping jobs open and maintaining the middle class lifestyle. You are furthering the belief all over the world that Americans have class. That we will not be degraded regarding our window treatments and if we have to use more than a moist towelette to get our house work done then we will rise in protest and throw down to defend our right to be lazy.
