Talk about memory foam beds is plentiful today. Many people have made claims about them being a miracle cure for back pain while others report the odors may be toxic. One thing for sure, these foam beds are hear to stay. If you also suffer from morning back pain as I did, caused by a bad bed, then you most likely can benefit from a visco elastic foam bed.
Not everybody experiences this kind of lower back pain. Some people can sleep on anything - the floor, a couch, a sofa chair and never wake up with back pain. Year after year my morning back pain increased until one morning I could barely get out of bed. I could not figure out why this was happening. I worked in an office and did no heavy lifting or any activity that would cause back pain.
I had heard all the hype about foam beds and I was now ready to try one, but the price was just too high. Besides, I wasn't even sure if it would help me. I did not want to spend thousands of dollars on a gamble. With a little research I found out I could put one of these mattresses together myself by purchasing the layers separately from wholesalers and save a lot of money.
This visco elastic foam has been around for a long time now, no one has the monopoly on quality memory foam, and today there many reputable manufacturers selling this space-age foam at wholesale prices to the public. You just need to educate yourself a bit to make sure you buy the right kind.
Top end foam MF mattresses typically consist of the following layers: The first bottom layer is a firm base of conventional foam at least 4 inches thick. The next layer might be an egg crate layer also of conventional foam to provide air ventilation. Next comes the memory foam, at least 3 inches thick and at least 5 pounds per cubic foot. Sometimes a second layer of memory foam is used, for example 2 inches thick at 3-4 pounds per cubic foot. This fourth layer is optional and determined by personal preference.
For the final step you need a rigid, solid platform bed frame for these foam mattresses. This is very important for the mattress to perform properly and extend its life. My little foam bed project cost me a total of $600 which included the visco elastic foam mattress and platform frame. Purchased at a retail outlet a bed of this quality could easily have cost over $2,000.
