Ever hear the phrase curb appeal? This refers to the first impression that someone driving past your property will have, at first glance. The phrase is used in the real estate world and is considered a very important factor in the potential sales process. Let's face it, we all tend to make snap judgments and first impressions count. This seems to apply whether we're meeting someone for the first time or viewing an inanimate object, such as maybe a house, with a view to purchase. As the grounds of your house are the very first thing somebody will see it only makes sense to ensure that your driveway maintenance is up-to-date.

It very often does not matter what the inside of the property looks like if the outside gives a bad impression. Would-be buyers can be turned away before they even get to see the inside of the house. It is true that the lawn area can be cut quite easily, but paved areas take a lot more work and it is essential to keep up with your driveway maintenance.

If you have a driveway maintenance problem, you might consider turning to the many products on the market available to help you today. When looking to remove stains, consider using regular laundry products or dishwashing detergent which you can sprinkle on to the area, let stand and scrub off with hot water. If you are considering the use of bleach, be careful that you do not use this near a drainage system as this is a powerful chemical and you should be careful.

There are some commercially available products, such as dry sodium phosphate, specifically intended for concrete stain removal. This is a harsh chemical and one should be careful about using it for driveway maintenance " use sparingly.

A considerable amount of hard labor is required when you use detergents or chemicals to treat existing stains as part of your driveway maintenance. You will have to apply plenty of scrubbing action, with a rinse and probably a repeat, so this is not for the fainthearted or for the frail.

Pressure cleaning can be used for driveway maintenance, if you do not want to use chemicals. However, a trip to the rental company will probably be necessary as most people do not have these units in a garage. Many advocate that you should hire a professional to help you with this, but if you don't, be careful using the product and never point at any windows, doors, animals or other people.

Think about installing an absorbent mat underneath your vehicles, and avoid having to spend considerable time, money and effort on your driveway maintenance. These items are purpose made to absorb a host of different liquids, including the oils that normally leak from beneath your vehicles. The mats can be cut according to your requirements, but do come in many different sizes.

Your driveway maintenance can be quite easy if you catch the problem before it takes place. Absorbent mats are made from strong polypropylene with a base that will not leak. They are washable and replaceable and will help you to maintain your "curb appeal" by keeping your driveway stain free.
