Finding Affordable Vertical File Cabinets

by Timothy Sanders

Most of the file cabinets that you see in work areas or offices are vertical file cabinets. Their shape makes them effective organization tools and they save a good amount of space. Any one who needs to store a large amount of files or documents needs a piece of furniture to keep them in, and these cabinets are the most effective for that job. Both two and five drawer models are readily available at any office supply retailer, with three and four drawer models being less common.

When most think of filing cabinets in general, they automatically think about the vertical style. And why not? It's the only real viable style for a home work space or a commercial office to store their files without having to have to dig through thousands of other papers. Not all of them are made equal, though, and not every style is right for everyone. There are more secure models, lighter models, and even mobile models. It is up to you to determine what you need for your work area.

Secure models can have detailed lock systems or even be 100 percent fire proof. These kinds are great if you are in a high-risk area or if you are just worried about the integrity of your important documents. It is always better to be safe than sorry. You will most often see these in heavy commercial or industrial businesses, especially the ones that are fire resistant. Also keep in mind that the ones that are fireproof actually usually weigh over 800 pounds, so they are not really for use at home.

Light models are usually made of thin steel and they are great if you do not have a lot of money to work with. Steel vertical file cabinets are also very common in offices, and they come in any drawer amount you can think of. Also, these filing cabinets are relatively sturdy, though they can get dented after everyday use.

Mobile models are usually steel ones on wheels. These tend to be very light on their own, and the best ones come with wheels that can rotate a full 360 degrees to make transport easier. These are great if you switch work areas often or have to transfer files from one area to the next, but they are not as tall as other types of filing cabinets due to risk of tipping over. You can find some models out there that have a handle attached, but that is not standard and must be actively searched for.

Any and all offices have vertical file cabinets somewhere within then, there is certainly no doubt about that. While computers can hold out data these days, there are just some things that need to be kept in paper form. Offices are very paper-intensive environments, and until that is not the case then they will still be using file cabinets.

Having difficulty getting your office organized? Consider using vertical file cabinets to get your files all in order and finally get organized.
